I'm distressingly far behind on my TV watching. It's...distressing.
Also, as I was sitting in class today I realized that my brain is a week behind. As in, I thought I had another week before a research paper is due, another week before a History Club event I'm leading, another week before a presentation I have is due, just, you know, another week. So right this second I'm kind of freaking out. And by kind of, I mean, a lot. Because now, looking at the correct week in my planner, it has become apparent that I have a research paper due next Tuesday on some kind of Latin American issue, a research paper due THIS Wednesday on Clare of Assisi and mysticism, and I have to organize an English garden party for Saturday. When did my life become such a whirling torrent of misery.
On the other hand, it was extremely entertaining to watch the Supernatural fandom explode last night upon the news that Jensen Ackles and his girlfriend are now engaged. I had never run across actual Tinhatters until last night, so that was completely hilarious. Also, trolls. Not that my opinion is worth anything in the grand scheme of things, but I think they're an adorable couple and will make beautiful babies. And I'm always game for weddings.

So, my Halloween started on Friday with me throwing on whatever clothes I could find that I don't usually wear. I ended up as an 80's work-out instructor/jogger/Olivia Newton John. My roommates said that I should teach "Yoga Boogie Ballet." That night ended with me very close to passing out on a friend's futon after drinking way the hell too much which, let me tell you, is not exactly my thing to do. My actual Halloween started with a phone call to my very sluggish self about a babysitting gig that I had apparently agreed to do. It ended with my roommates and I curled up in our uncomfortable chairs watching the latest X-Files movie and going to bed at 2:00 am. Overall, rather eventful, but thankfully rather quiet in the end.
As far as TV goes, because I'm ridiculously behind on posting my thoughts, I figured, why not use this time to procrastinate on a paper and post them now!
( So, without further ado - Dollhouse, Merlin, and Supernatural. )

So, say you have a fic, and it's completed, beta'd and all...why would you not just post it all at once? Like, why do you have to have a "I'll post on Wednesdays and Saturdays!" kind of thing going on? Am I just being prissy or is that kind of an annoying thing to do? It seems like it's a way to fish for more comments or something. :(

"I screwed up. Obama asked me for help persuading the Olympic committee to pick Chicago, but I accidentally called Nobel headquarters." (twitter)
Lol Misha Collins. ILU.
Funny Story: apparently, in 2007, I created a Twitter. Fast forward two years to a couple of weeks ago, I was like, la-de-da I should get a Twitter so I went to go register "thecaptainslass" which is my screen name for, like, everything. And I get the message "thecaptainslass is already in use," and was like, aaah hell nah, screw you Twitter, if I can't use that, then I ain't using you at all. Okay, fast forward again, a week or so and I'm like, hmm, I wonder if that is actually me. So I type it in, and enter one of my various passwords and it's like, "Welcome *insert my name here*!" And I'm like, what? And there's this Tweet, and it says:
"Laughing at the fact that there are seagulls in my yard during a blizzard."
I honestly have no memory of creating this account nor typing in that Tweet. Well, that's a lie. I actually do have a vague memory of myself creating a Twitter back when it was like, brand new, and I was all up in my obsession with the Daily Show/Colbert Report because Stephen Colbert mentioned something about it on his show. So yeah. Apparently I have a Twitter. The end.
I don't plan on using it, fyi. Because I kind of just want it to follow my lovelies like Misha Collins.
A gift. FYT:

totes didn't make that, btw

I kind of think that all the fanfiction I've been reading lately is giving me unrealistic expectations of love. Lol. My life is so hard.

( Supernatural thoughts. Well. One thought, really. )
I've been having issues with my computer lately and it's freaking me out. I never ever ever have problems with my computer but lately I've been getting a lot of that doomed-rainbow-spinny-wheel-of-death-o-m atic. It's been thinking too hard, poor little thing. Clearing out more room on the harddrive fixes that, I think.
In my Latin American History class, we're 500 years behind. No that is not an exaggeration. We are literally 500 years behind. We're still on the various conquests and we're already supposed to be post-revolutions. I don't know how we're going to catch up. We probably won't, honestly.
So I'm co-president of the history club here.Shut up, I know I'm a nerd. I'm thinking of organizing an English garden party. With tea and scones. And croquet. We have a beautiful lawn here at school that would be perfect for it. Sound like fun? :)

In a discussion with a friend, quite a while ago, our opinions on the best TV shows to have aired in recent years came up. These six are the shows that made my list. I don't watch a whole lot of television, so the batch I chose from is relatively small and the list I made is highly subjective. That said, I firmly believe that while these may not be THE six best, they really are six OF the best to have aired in recent years. I didn't want to rank them, so I put them chronologically by the year they premiered.
Without further ado, I present to you:
Spoilers for the entire series of X-Files, The West Wing, Life, and Firefly. Also spoilers through S4 of House and S4 of Supernatural.
( I've been working on this for ages. Took me long enough to finally get it together. )

I turned in my lit review for my thesis two weeks ago, expecting to get it before last weekend, but my advisor wasn't done with it quite yet. Fine by me, just means I didn't have to work on my thesis much last weekend. But I got an email on Friday that she was leaving it outside her office for me to pick up. Meaning I actually have to work on it. That's okay. Really. But still. It's my thesis. And I've only got about 8 pages of it and the first draft needs to be done in like...4 weeks.
So what do I do to avoid such responsibilities? Watch TV of course.
( Glee, Fringe, and Supernatural. )

I made the mistake at first of trying to watch while writing a paper on immigration out of China and India and the economic strains that it's putting on both countries, but alas, Supernatural won out. It's such a mystery as to why! /sarcasm. It only meant I was up until one to finish instead of getting to bed earlier. Which so wouldn't have happened anyway.
But before I get too carried away, my thoughts:

Hi new friends!
Mostly for my own entertainment, I thought I'd compile a list of premieres and shows I think I might follow this season. The last time I did this my list had at least 10 shows on it and I ended up only watching one regularly and only following about two others, simply because I was too busy to invest much time in them all. But we'll see this season, eh?
Supernatural: my latest obsession. I was introduced over the summer while on a study abroad program, became hopelessly addicted, watched all four seasons in a short amount of time, and am now sitting on my hands, bouncing my leg impatiently, waiting for the newest season to premiere and distracting myself with familiarizing myself with the fandom. I like what I see so far. :) Needless to say that if I watch any show on this list, it will be this one.
Heroes: Okay, I have the hugest love-hate relationship with this show EVER. It started when I watched the first season as it aired. I was disgusted by Sylar, annoyed by all the story lines, hated Claire, and thought Milo/Peter was hot. I ended up getting really busy and stopped watching. Fast forward to just before season 3 starts airing and my roommate buys season 1 on DVD and declares a Heroes-watching-week with a bunch of friends. I joined them, because, I mean, they were in my living room after all. And I found that, hey, I actually kind of love Sylar, still hate Claire, and don't like Milo/Peter all that much after all, and can sometimes understand Hiro and Ando when they speak in Japanese, which amuses me to no end. And watching Heroes with a group of friends is much more entertaining than watching it alone. That said, I dropped off halfway through last season to focus on schoolwork, but caught up again early this summer. I'll watch the premiere at least, but we'll see about the rest of the season.
House: Unfortunately this show now airs at the same time Heroes does. Honestly, though, that probably just means that I'll choose it over Heroes. I've loved this show since the beginning and think it's honestly one of the best shows on television at the moment. I was majorly WTF about the season 5 finale, but I'm excited to see where it all goes.
Dollhouse: So this show, in typical Joss Whedon fashion, started off a little rough, with one or two excellent episodes and then a slump. I thought it was going to get canceled there for a while but would still watch with my other roommate every week. Imagine my delight, then, when it gets over its period of major suckage and becomes freaking amazing and gets renewed. So now I'm looking forward to it. I feel like Fox redeemed itself slightly for the mistake it made in prematurely canceling Firefly by renewing Dollhouse despite falling ratings, so I'm hoping that it all works out well.
Glee: I watched the Pilot when it aired last spring and totally fell in love. This show is so much happiness. Kind of like Pushing Daisies used to be my weekly injection of happiness straight to the veins? Yeah that's probably what this'll turn into. And I really love the music.
Fringe: I like this show. I honestly do. It's just one of those shows that I'm going to let go and then catch up in batches as I find the time. I did that last season and it worked well, it'll probably happen again this season.
Merlin: Yay! This show is so much fun. And as the new series starts in the UK in a couple of weeks, I'll be prowling the interwebs for downloads, like I did last series, in order to keep up. So while I might be a day or two behind each week, I'm definitely going to be on top of it. :)
Bones: Okay. This show is so far gone in my opinion that it should even be on the list. But I still have that small soft spot for it that will cause me to keep an eye on episodes. If one gets a lot of fan attention, I'll watch it. Otherwise, I can't bring myself to keep up.

Friends list! I friended many of you before leaving for a giant, epic, summer-long jaunt across and through the Mediterranean, a trip on which I had no internet. Therefore, many of you may have forgotten that we were even friends in the first place. But I have returned!
My Merlin friends: Uh, so I'm loving all the news and updates that I've been trying to catch up on. And I love the new promo pictures. I'm looking forward to the new series! :)
My Star Trek friends: So hilariously, ST was the movie on my flight from Washington, DC to San Francisco and you know what they did? They edited it! So when the kids are bullying baby!Spock, they call his mother a "human" *insert awkward bleeped out pause here* rather than a "human whore." But my favorite sensor? Instead of Spock being a "pointy-eared bastard," I want you all to know that he is a "pointy-eared buzzard." Haha.
Everyone: So while on this trip I was cooped up on a boat for a large majority of it and one of the friends I made had brought Supernatural seasons 1-3. We watched them and now I'm in the process of catching up on Season 4 and then Season 5 starts soon. Long bouts of squeeing aside: this is totally my new obsession. Are any of you Supernatural fans and would care to squee with me about it? :D

Hello wonderful and ever-growing friends list. I know that I basically just friended half of you and you therefore have not heard from me much anyway, but I just wanted to say that I will be leaving to go off gallivanting around for the a summer study-abroad trip in the Mediterranean for a few months and as such will not be around, like, at all. I'm torn between weeping with excited anxiety for the sheer amount of awesomeness this trip will be and weeping with ridiculously pathetic sorrow that I will no doubt fall far, far behind in my fandoms, particularly in Star Trek, which I was just rediscovering. Boo. But in other news, Mediterranean! Yay!

Note: I'm actually not going to tag anyone because I don't really have very many friends on this journal. However, if you see this and would like to post your own answers at your own journal, I'd love to see them!
Rules: Once you've been tagged, you are supposed to answer these questions about yourself. At the end, choose 10 people to be tagged. If I tagged you, it's because I want to know more about you.
1. What is one of the most embarrassing things that has ever happened to you?
You can go read my I R SMRT journal entry a little down my page and read AN embarrassing thing that's happened, but otherwise, I can't think of one off the top of my head.
2. What is one guilty pleasure that you indulge in?
At the moment? Prowling lj fandom comms for macros. Haha.
3. What was your favorite show as a child?
Wishbone! On PBS! Or Bill Nye the Science Guy. Or Kratt's Kreatures.
4. How much time a day do you spend on Facebook?
Not all that much. Every now and then I get distracted taking quizzes for a while, though.
5. How old were you when you fell in love for the first time?
NEVAR. OH WAIT. Unless you count Aaron Carter. When I was 12. Haha.
6. Do you collect anything?
Movie ticket stubs. Going all the way back to Mulan, baby! (The first movie I saw in theaters, lol.)
7. What is your favorite song?
Probably something by Snow Patrol. Signal Fire, If There's A Rocket Tie Me To It, or some other.
8. Have you ever written a sappy love poem?
Hahahahahaa. Yes.
9. How different is your adult life from what you imagined it to be at 16?
Well, I wanted to be a marine biologist when I was 16, and was looking at colleges almost exclusively on the East Coast. Now I'm studying history at a school in California and wouldn't touch biology with a ten foot pole.
10. If you could stay any age for the rest of your life, what would it be?
Mmm. I like what I am right now.
